The objective of the project is to determine the engineering stability of thermoplastics at different thermal loads to the glass transition temperature. The extreme accident heating of thermoplastics used in the civil engineering and building industry, subject polymers to heat fluxes, which cause the creep, the construction overloading and the collapse. To explain and describe this phenomenon, the effect of temperature on the simultaneous volume expansion, the bulk and elastic modulus of amorphous thermoplastics will be measured. A special aspect of the investigation will be devoted to the time effect of heating on the evolution of materials mechanical properties. The elastic deformation and creep affected by the loading stress will be described within the framework of the thermodynamics of irreversible processes. The numerical simulation will be used to predict the polymer heating rates and temperature profiles throughout the typical construction parts. The originality of the project results will consist of the relation of the thermal conditions to the mechanical moduli evolution and the failing resilience of the thermoplastic construction parts. |
