Methodology and appropriate sampling devices will be developed for an improved estimate of the total wet deposition and for a more accurate assessment of the water and mass balance of valuable landscape types. Based on a better knowledge of the pollutant deposition a recovery of the landscape ecological stability will be possible and at the same time the concerns of the landscape inhabitants, the concerns of the state and the vital landscape functions can be harmonized. The existing sampling network, which is operated by both participating institutions and which includes valuable landscapes, will be utilized. Meteorological and hydrological monitoring of localities will be complemented by a fog and occult precipitation sampling and chemical analysis. The equipment will be standardized and the number of the areas monitored will be increased so that all basic landscape types and ecological systems will be covered and the core of a future national monitoring network will be established.
