TWIN SKIN – Digital TWIN for Safety of Critical Infrastructure in water treatment plants

The project TWIN SKIN – Digital TWIN for Safety of Critical Infrastructure in water treatment plants starts at the beginning of the year 2022. The University of Chemistry and Technology Prague with the Institute of Hydrodynamics of the CAS, International Institute for Security and VDT Technology will participate on the project which is supported by SECTECH (Security Research Program of the Czech Republic 2021–2026: development, testing and evaluation of new security technologies) launched by the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic

Realisation of the project will result in the creation of a digital twin of a drinking water treatment plant that will enable simulation of various technological and process measures to manage different operating conditions. It will be usable also for the administration of documentation of machine technological units of the plant, and mainly for the control over the operational risks. Owing to the 24h prediction of raw water quality by the computational algorithm of neural networks, the potential risks will be eliminated. The predictive knowledge of the input parameters accompanied with the simulation module will increase the robustness of the critical infrastructure system with regard to assuring continuous supply of high quality drinking water to inhabitants. The simulations on the digital twin will be conducted in real time using an infrastructure that will enable testing of different operational and emergency situations.
